Organizational Overview

Roger W. Truesdail started Truesdail Laboratories, Inc. in 1931. At the time he was a professor of chemistry at the Pomona College in Claremont. Initially his laboratory analyzed only yeast products, however within a few months Dr. Truesdail foresaw a need for an independent laboratory capable of performing a wide spectrum of tests. Consequently, he added other laboratories and moved them to downtown Los Angeles where Truesdail remained for 52 years.

Dr. Philip Charley who was a chemist, as well as Dr. Truesdail's son-in-law, became president in 1972. In 1983 he moved the Laboratories to Tustin, in Central Orange County. In 1996 the responsibility of President was succeeded to a son-in-law, Dr. John C. Hill. Dr. Hill received his doctorate in Molecular Biology from Northwestern University in 1982. His scientific background, combined with his avocation of computer technology, helped the company grow in new directions including the addition of product certification and product testing.

With the shareholders’ goal of strengthening Truesdail’s business side, in mid-2013, our leadership was changed on an interim basis to Mr. Brian Service, who has a background in business rather than laboratory. Mr. Service also brought with him the experience of operating as chief executive officer (CEO) for several companies, and a talent for organizing businesses.

In May 2015, our operations were relocated to a new state-of-the-art facility in Irvine, California. The new facility is designed for more streamlined operations, demonstrating once again that Truesdail is constantly evolving to meet the demands of customers.

In September 2015, Mr. Service stepped down and Mr. Ed Wilson became our CEO. Mr. Wilson has more than 39 years of experience in environmental testing and an in-depth knowledge of our industry. Most recently he was President of a major U.S. testing lab, and previously served as its Vice President and Laboratory Director. He has an extensive history prior to that. He served as Vice President of IT and marketing of Columbia Analytical Services, Inc., Laboratory Director of CH2M Hill and Pace Analytical, and began as a chemist with Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University and he continued his graduate studies at California State, Long Beach. Mr. Wilson’s is expected to help Truesdail move confidently forward in the coming years.

Through the work of Dr. Truesdail and his successors, Truesdail continues to uphold its standard of excellence and diversity. We are known throughout the industry for our service and versatility, which is in contrast to most labs where the orientation is mass production for a limited span of services. Today, Truesdail Laboratories has a pleasant mix offering large-company benefits with a family owned atmosphere.

Truesdail Laboratories has over 85 years of independent testing experience. We have the expertise to complete a wide variety of laboratory services - certifying products, auditing manufacturing facilities, testing drinking water, wastewater and soils, field service sampling, flow meter calibration, testing for drugs in racing animals and nutritional supplements, fungus resistance and microbiology testing, and more.
