PRC Standards System: Introduction
The Chinese standards system is administered by the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China (SAC),
a governmental organization under the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s
Republic of China (AQSIQ). AQSIQ itself is a ministerial-level organization under the authority of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
The State Council tasks its administrative departments with managing the standardization work of their corresponding professional sectors.
At the regional level (provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities), the regional government is in charge of administering a
uniform standardization regime for the region. At the local level (city or county), the local government administers the standardization
regime as specified by the relevant regional government.
