The U.S.- Africa Clean Energy Standards Program (CESP) provides a forum through which industry and government representatives from the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa can share clean energy standards information and international best practices, and facilitate engagement with the U.S. public and private sectors.
Sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and coordinated by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in partnership with Power Africa, the program will facilitate the development and implementation of testing protocols, regulatory procedures and adherence to internationally accepted industry-led standards.
Beginning in 2016, ANSI has coordinated 8 energy-related workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa under the initial Base Phase and Phase I of the CESP. These workshops covered a wide range of technologies and challenges in the clean energy area including energy storage, solar PV mini-grids, electrical safety, energy efficiency, and interconnection codes. Workshop topics were chosen in coordination with relevant industry associations, ANSI, and USTDA. The CESP was renewed for a third and final phase in 2019.
During Phase III, ANSI will coordinate 4 workshops, which will provide a forum for the public and private sectors in the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa to:
